Hello Families =)
Another amazing week in Kindergarten! I cannot believe how fast the first six weeks of school have gone by! I was just sharing with Mrs. Sweeney how proud I am of the kids. They know what is expected of them, they have built up their stamina for learning, and they come to school happy every day! Then today, the music teacher, Mr. Jones, came up to me and told me that Kindergarten has come a long way. He too is very proud of them!
On Wednesday, we celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday, and we had a lot of fun! All of our subjects were centered around apples. They loved the science lesson that day. We made apple volcanoes (courtesy of apples, baking soda, dish soap, and vinegar), and they learned the life cycle of an apple. I hope they shared all about it with you. We also tasted three different types of apples, and we graphed which ones were the best tasting during math.
Our phonics lessons began teaching us proper letter formation this week. On Thursday, we started with the lowercase letter a. Proper letter formation is so important to learn in kindergarten. If I send your child home with practice sheets, please spend a little time with them because they need a little extra support, and send them in the following day.
During science, we are continuing to focus on forces and interactions. I am hoping it cools down next week because we are going to be playing a soccer game to demonstrate the different forces and interactions with the soccer ball. I am sure they are going to really enjoy it!
In math, we will be working with numbers to 10 until the beginning of November. I still hear some groans during math, but it is the hardest subject for the little ones to sit still through. That is why I always start with a mini lesson, and I make sure we get to play a math game that correlates with what we are working on. The movement really helps. I do not want them building any walls during certain subjects, so I try hard to put the fun in everything we do.
Next week, we have two birthdays! Samantha's is on Monday, October 1st. Omar's is on Thursday, October 4th, and we have a minimum day (FREE DRESS) on Friday, October 5th. Dismissal is at 11:45. It is going to be a busy week!
I hope you all have a nice weekend. Let's hope it cools down!
