Hello Families =)
Happy Friday! I am so happy our weather cooled down! The kids are enjoying it too! I was hoping with this great weather we were going to play our soccer game during science while teaching about force and motion, but our extra time quickly filled up with our MAP testing. Next week, we will have our match!
This week during language arts, I assessed all of this kids with their letter and sound recognition. I also did this assessment in the beginning of the year, and I am seeing results. However, I have made the decision to spend even more time on phonics, and it will cut into our writing time a little. It is so important for all of the kids to have automatic letter recognition and sound recognition for them to become great writers. We are also working hard on proper letter formation because we do not want to develop poor writing habits. We will continue writing narratives during writing, but I wanted to communicate that most of our time is going to be dedicated to phonics until we are where we should be. I also want to let you know that if your child does not need the extra practice at any time, he or she will continue to write with different lessons to focus other than phonics. I do not want anyone bored in here or regressing, and I do not want anyone feeling lost at the same time. I am sure you understand =) Thank you so much for your support!
We finished the first half of our module in math, so we will be taking an assessment next week. After the assessments are done, the kids will be bringing home math homework. Please continue to have your child practice writing their numbers 0-5, counting up 0-10, counting down 0-10, and identifying the missing number 0-10. They would also benefit from practicing what is one more than and one less than.
We now have Raz-Kids accounts to help us become readers, so I will be giving out their passwords to you next week. Logging on to Raz-Kids each night will also help your child with their letter and sound recognition. If your child is already a reader, Raz-Kids will help them grow as stronger readers. It will be a great tool for your little one. If you would like to check it out, here is the address:
