Happy Friday =)
Thank you for coming to the Poetry Slam! I think it turned out so cute! There were so many awesome poems, and the kinders did amazing!!
This week in writing, we really concentrated on putting poems in our poetry books. The kids have some great poems to share with you. We will be sending them home next week.
We started a whole new math unit that focuses on teaching addition problems. We are starting out with adding up to sums of ten. If any of the lessons are moving too fast, please let me know. I always check in with them before I send the homework home because I never want them at their frustration level.
In science this week, we had so much fun observing our caterpillars and learning all about what is happening at every stage. Olivia's mom is so super! She brought in a real scientist recording journal for us to keep daily logs with pictures that the kids think is just the coolest thing ever! Thank you again, Missy!
Next week, we are going to continue with our opinion writing unit. I have some great letters planned. I think the kids are going to have fun with these writing pieces.
Please continue to read with your child daily. They are readers =)
Some upcoming events are Grandparent's Day on May 6th. It is a minimum day, and I sent out an email earlier today with some details about the special day.
May 14th is the Hillcrest Gala
May 16th is Legoland
I hope you all have the best weekend! See you on Monday!
Happy Monday Families =) I am so sorry that our class blog is a couple of days late this week. We had such a busy week last week, and it was followed by a very busy weekend for my family.
Last week, we accomplished so much in all subject areas! Hence, the very busy week!
In writing, the class finished their first opinion letter. They chose to fix the problem of the older kids running and being loud in the hallways. I have been keeping all of their writing for a portfolio, but if you are interested in seeing their latest writing, I can always make a copy =)
We also have completed their acrostic and limerick poems. I really hope that you can make it to our poetry slam this coming Friday at 1pm in the MAC.
In math, we have finally moved on to number sentences. The nightly homework may become a little more difficult. Please let me know if this happens. I try my best to make sure everyone understands what we learned for the day before I send them home to show me their understanding.
In science, we received our caterpillars, and we have started our observations and are learning all about the butterflies life cycle. I cannot wait until they form their chrysalis this week. The kids are going to love it! We completed our Earth day unit. We had so much fun learning how to reduce, reuse and recycle. And ending the unit with our BIG Earth Day Celebration and rotation with grades TK through 5th grade learning about how to preserve our Earth was icing on the cake!
In reading, everyone continues to move up. They are super star readers!
This week, we are focusing on finishing up our poetry, starting a new opinion/persuasive letter, watching butterflies grow, and learning how to add and subtract in number sentences.
I hope you all have an amazing week! Thank you for your continued support =)
It's Friday! I need time to slow down =( We had a very busy week here in Kindergarten! The kids were awesome this week and eager to learn! Giving them more challenging spelling words was a success! They all did excellent!
In writing, we are working on writing persuasive letters. Mrs. Sweeney stopped by to watch a lesson and enjoyed how much our class loves to write! They are GREAT writers!
We also learned about acrostic poems this week, and we started writing our own. Each child will be writing an acrostic poem about their name. To start this, we went around giving adjectives (compliments) about each other that we may be able to use. There were lots of smiles!
Math is continuing to pick up with the start of writing number sentences by working with more than and less than problems. Thank you for your help and patience with homework!
Earth week starts on Monday. If your child purchased an Earth day t-shirt, he or she may wear it everyday along with free dress bottoms to go with it. If your child does not have an Earth day shirt, regular uniforms must be worn. To celebrate Earth week, we are attending the Carlsbad Flower Fields on Tuesday. They put on a wonderful program! I will be emailing out information and reminders on Monday to ensure a great day. We will also being doing some fun recycling, reusing and reducing lessons next week. We will be ending the week on Friday (Earth Day) by traveling from class to class and participating in different activities and experiments pertaining to saving our Earth.
Our butterflies are scheduled to come in on Wednesday! Thank you again for helping to contribute to this very fun lesson on the butterfly's life cycle! I truly appreciate ALL of you!
I hope you all have an amazing weekend! I am hoping for some sunny weather and relaxation =)
See you on Monday!
Happy Friday =)
I am so sorry that the assembly went way past our dismissal time today. Thank you all for being understanding! On a happier note, everyone got a 100% on the spelling test! I did make this upcoming week's words a little more challenging. Happy teacher!
We are going to start our poetry unit on Monday. April is national poetry month. We will be ending the unit with our version of a poetry slam. Those invitations were sent home with your child yesterday. It is going to be on April 29th at 1 pm in the MAC. I hope you all can make it!
We are done with our social studies units for the year (it flew by). We will be doing lots of fun science for the rest of the year. We are focusing on Earth week while we are working with our assigned unit of paper, fabric and wood. We will be learning all about recycling using these products. I also love learning and teaching about science in Spring. A lot of magical things happen in the Spring in regards to nature. In the next couple of weeks, we are going to be watching the life cycle of butterflies by raising our own butterflies in the classroom.
In math, we are wrapping up our unit on measurement in the next couple of weeks, and we are going to be transitioning into working with addition and subtraction number sentences.
I hope you all have an amazing weekend! See you all on Monday!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
