Happy Friday =)
What a week of weather! It snowed at my house last night! These kids have been troopers!
We started learning about Morocco this week during Social Studies because our school-wide International Week is coming up on March 18th. During International Week, our class will travel to each class in the school to learn about the countries they are presenting. In return, everyone will also come to our room to learn about Morocco. We will need outfits to wear to represent Morocco, so I am going to brainstorm this weekend. If you have any easy/inexpensive ideas, please let me know. We are focusing on geography, food, holidays/traditions, and languages.
For our How To Writing this week, the kids wrote directions on how to make a bowl of cereal. Next week, I am going to bring in all of the fixings, and I am going to "test" everyone's writing. I am excited to see who paid close attention to the details =)
We also worked with the 8th graders during writing. We paired up with them to create books online using book creator. We will be sharing their books with you. They are pretty great!
I hope math homework has not been too difficult. It should only take a few minutes, and the kids should be able to do it alone. It is simply a check in on what they learned that day. If it is more than that, please let me know. Thank you so much for your support!
The readers in the book bags are proving to be very beneficial! I am enjoying meeting up with the kids and having them read to me. Please continue to have them read for at least 15-20 minutes each day with you out of their book bags. Remember I change them out each Monday, and if you see some of the same books, that just means they need a little more practice.
Our words of the week next week are going to be:
Next week is Read Across America Week. Please refer to the papers that I have been sending home about D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything And Read). Remember that the coupons (the nightly homework) have to be returned each day, so your child can receive a reward. Next Friday, March 1st, is Dr. Seuss's birthday, and it is minimum day. We are asking if your child would like to participate to please dress up as a Dr. Seuss character on Friday. We will be celebrating his birthday by reading his books in the morning, and celebrating with treats at snack time. If you are interested in coming in to the class next Friday and reading a Dr. Seuss book to the class, please let me know. Our reading times will be between 8:30 and 10:00. We would love to have you!!
I hope that you all have a beautiful weekend!
Happy Friday, Kindergarten Family!
I hope you all had a great week! We were off to a rough start with so much rain. The kids need and love to go outside and run around, so you can imagine how it is for them to be indoors for two days straight =( We were so happy to welcome the sunshine on Wednesday!
Even though the rain brought on a little silliness, we were still working hard on being amazing kindergarteners. We finished our rough drafts of the How To Draw A Snowman writing pieces. We completed our lowercase alphabet printing practice during phonics. The kiddos are beginning to master number bonds during math practice. AND they all did so great with their reading bags this week! They do not bring home book bags over the weekend (last weekend was a treat because they were so excited), so you will see the new books on Monday. If your child has some of the same books, that just means they need a little more practice with those particular readers.
Our new words of the week that we are working on off of our sight word list are:
On Monday, we will be celebrating Sohum's 6th birthday! He is bringing in fancy donuts, milk and juice for all of us to enjoy! We will be celebrating as soon as school starts =)
Also, on Monday, the valentine heart letters I sent home need to be returned to school. It is a sweet little project I do each year.
Valentine's Day is next Thursday, and we will celebrate in here. Please refer to last week's email and paper I sent home for all of the fun information.
Don't forget the school dance is tonight! I hope you all have a wonderful time! I tried to get my brother to reschedule his birthday dinner (today is his birthday), but that did not work, so I will miss you all tonight. I hope you bring the 1980's theme!!!
Have a beautiful weekend!
Happy Friday! What a week! We were 100 years (days) old in kindergarten on Wednesday, we went on an awesome field study yesterday, and today we finished up our reading assessments and filled our book bags. The kids worked so hard all week! I am always in awe of just how amazing they are!
Because our week was so full, we did not get to a few things. Next week we will continue our letter practice starting with the letters x and z since we did not have the time this week. We are also working with the letter y. We are also continuing to work with the same words of the week because we did not have enough time with them. Our words will continue to be:
I finished the reading assessments. I now have your child's exact reading level, so I put books in their book bags that are at their "just right" reading level. Here is how the book bags work:
*Your child will bring home their book bag each night, and they need to bring them back each day. I purchased these leveled readers, so please make sure your child treats them with love. If they do not return them, they will not receive more books.
*Please make sure your child reads out of their bag for 20 minutes each night. They do not have to read all of the books if they reach the 20 minute mark.
*If they are having a hard time reading their books, please let me know. I do not want to push them. This goes the same if they are too easy. Please keep in mind if they seem simple, we are also working on reading comprehension. If the words are too simple AND they comprehend what is going on in the book, I definitely want to know.
*I will change the books every Monday (this will start on the 11th). On Friday, they will read the books to me, and I will make sure they are ready for the next level. If they are not ready, you will see the same books.
These books have proven to be a powerful reading tool each year, and I am excited to see how they blossom as readers for the rest of the year!
Math homework will be going home in two weeks. I want to start with the book bags. I do not want to overwhelm the kids, and we could use a little more time with our math.
During science we are continuing to explore various Earth surfaces and the sun.
Next Friday is our minimum day, and it is the school dance. The whole family is invited, and it is 1980's themed. So come decked out in your neon, acid washed jeans, and Miami Vice best!
Thank you for all of your support this week! I am here for you if you have any questions. Have a wonderful weekend!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
