Hello Families =)
The kids were awesome this week! They even earned their second marble party! We will have our marble party on Monday, January 29th. We will be watching a movie while enjoying some ice cream! I am so proud of them! They have been working so hard and growing as learners.
To celebrate our successful "How To" writing, we enjoyed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, a bowl of cereal, and toast after the kids wrote how to prepare each of them. This helped them see how specific they have to be when teaching someone how to do something. Our next "How To" writing will begin with this weekend's homework assignment you will find in your child's white binder. Make sure to take a look.
All of the kids loved math this week because we did a lot of hands-on activities to assess their flat and solid shape knowledge. Today, they built shapes out of toothpicks and marshmallows. They may have sampled a few =)
In science this week, we began learning about animals. You will be hearing more about them soon! To celebrate learning about animals, we will be testing our knowledge at the Safari Park or the Zoo in a couple of months.
I changed out the book bags today. If you notice your child has some of the same books, please make sure to practice reading them more. I give them the next level book when they are able to read their books with ease and a good understanding of what the book is about.
***Please remember that the 100th Day of School is this coming Wednesday the 31st of January***
I am reminding you of this because all of the students will be dressing up as a 100 year old! I hope you have fun with this!
Have a great weekend!
Hello Families =)
It has been awhile since I have been able to update on here. I apologize that the hustle and bustle of December got the best of me. Happy New Year to you all!
The kids really impressed me this week with their awesome behavior and readiness to get back into the swing of things in school! They are such a great group of kids!
This week we worked on putting together our book bags. It takes a lot of time to make sure each child has 5-7 just right readers, but from now, on it will be much easier as they simply move up to the next level each week.
In writing, we began learning about How To writing. Before the break, we finished up writing Narratives, and they are so happy to be writing about something new. How To writing is fun because they get to be teachers informing us how to execute something. For example, today they wrote about how they get ready for school.
For social studies this week, we focused on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We watched some short video clips, read books, and had some good conversations.
In math, we are continuing to work on our shapes module. We will be finishing it next week.
For our STEAM activities this week, we had to focus on modeling for the students the right way to work as a team. We want everyone to be included and benefit from our STEAM days.
I start giving more homework in Kindergarten after Christmas break. We will begin with the book bags on Tuesday. After the kids get used to the routines and expectations that are included with them, I will begin sending home math homework. Finally, around the end of February, I will start sending home spelling word practice for our weekly spelling tests.
The second half of Kindergarten moves quickly. If you ever feel overwhelmed or have questions or concerns about what I am sending home, please contact me. I am always here for you all.
I hope you enjoy your 3 day weekend!
